This study examined the relationship between cyber
opportunity, cyber resilience, cyber victimization, cyber perpetrators, low
self-control, and cybercrime in Qatari society. Data was collected using a
questionnaire that was sent electronically to a heterogeneous convenient sample
of 273 Qatari and expatriate individuals. Participants had little above-average
knowledge about Qatari cyber law (43%), cybercrime (24%), and victims (72%
knowing cybercrime victims). 12% were cybercrime perpetrators, 38% were exposed
to cybercrime, 60.8% were exposed cybercrime victims, 33% lost money, 27.5%
lost data, 29% had hacked email, 32% purchased a new device, and 20%
were victims of hacked social media accounts. A statistically significant
relationship was found between cybercrime and each of cyber opportunity
(r=-0.183, α=0.05); LSC (r=0.210, α=0.001); cyber victimization (r=0.926,
α=0.001); and cyber perpetrator (r=0.91, α=0.001). Moreover, a statistically
significant difference was found in the knowledge of Qatari cybercrime law
attributed to cyber opportunity (F=9.061, α=0.003), cyber victimization
(F=21.098, α=0.00), cyber perpetrator (F=7.466, α=0.007), and cybercrime
(F=16.165, α=0.000). To reduce the increasing risks associated with
digital offenses in Qatar, this study emphasizes the necessity of integrated
cybercrime policies that incorporate psychological understanding, technological
protections, and public education.
